This April, during the romantic cherry blossom season, Cherry and Jennifer traveled to Sabae, Fukui, Japan, the world-renowned center for high-end eyewear production. Just as iconic as the Japanese cherry blossoms, we were thrilled to visit this historic and innovative location for the very first time.
Our journey began with a visit to the Glasses Museum in Sabae, where we learned about the rich history of eyewear production and the meticulous craftsmanship that has made Japan famous for its luxury eyewear. The advanced production technology and commitment to quality left us inspired, and it made us realize that there is still so much we can learn and strive for, just like the leaders in Japanese eyewear manufacturing.

Our Japanese friends shared with us the challenges currently facing eyewear manufacturing in Japan. With an aging workforce and outdated production equipment, Japan’s eyewear industry is experiencing certain difficulties such as long lead times, high production costs, and stringent quantity requirements. Many factories are struggling to keep up with demand, and some have been forced to outsource parts of the production process, even to overseas locations.

During our visit, we toured several factories, although strict regulations prevented us from photographing the internal production processes. One of the factories we visited only handled basic processes such as printing and packaging, with much of the production taking place abroad.
Despite these challenges, Japan still excels in certain areas, such as high-end electroplating and special metal surface effects, which remain a challenge for some Chinese factories. To meet the growing demands of our clients, we have entered into a long-term collaboration with our Japanese partners. Most of the primary production processes will take place at our Doon Shenzhen factory, while specialized techniques will be handled by our Japanese factory. This partnership allows us to offer clients the high quality and craftsmanship of Japan, while maintaining the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our Shenzhen operation—a true win-win situation for both parties.
On the other hand, Shenzhen is a high-end eyewear production center second only to Japan in Asia. It serves as an OEM/ODM production base for many Japanese companies already. We're excited to announce that this year, DOON(Japan) Eyewear Manufacturer will be opening its doors! We're confident that it will offer significant advantages in terms of pricing, quality, lead times, and service.
On the other hand, Shenzhen has become the second-largest eyewear production center in Asia, only behind Japan. Shenzhen already serves as an OEM/ODM base for many Japanese eyewear companies. We look forward to expanding our reach and working with even more brands in the future!
