This April, the romantic cherry blossoms season, Cherry and Jennifer went to FUKUI SAEBA, Japan, the world-famous high-end eyeglasses production center. As famous as the Japanese cherry blossoms! We was so excited to be there for a long, long time.
At the first stop, our Japanese friends led us to visit the glasses museum located in Sabae. The long history of glasses production, rigorous production technology, and craftsmanship spirit made me realize that we still have a lot to learn and work hard like Super Japan.
Our friend told us that ‘Eyewear Made in Japan’ is facing some challenges now, with an aging workforce and outdated production equipment. Japanese manufacturing faces certain challenges such as long lead times, high costs, and extremely high production quantity requirements. Factories, scattered in different places, rarely see people on the street, workers have become more and more difficult to find and it is difficult to organize into large-scale production. They really don't want to, but sometimes they have to outsource parts of the production process, even abroad.
We visited several factories and because of strict regulations that we were not allowed to photograph the internal production status, we didn't get to see much. One of the factories we visited only has a few simple processes, like printing and packaging. Most of their production is done abroad.
Some special techniques, like high-end electroplating and special metal surface effects, are still a challenge for Chinese factories. Our Japanese partner and we have already started a long-term cooperation relationship. Most of the main production process will be completed in Shenzhen, Doon Shenzhen factory. And some of the special processes will be sent to our Japanese factory to be done, so we can reach some clients' higher requirements and standards. But we'll be able to control the lead time and cost. We both believe it's a win-win situation for us, the technique of Japan and the efficiency of Shenzhen.
On the other hand, Shenzhen is a high-end eyewear production center second only to Japan in Asia. It serves as an OEM/ODM production base for many Japanese companies already. We're excited to announce that this year, DOON(Japan) Eyewear Manufacturer will be opening its doors! We're confident that it will offer significant advantages in terms of pricing, quality, lead times, and service.
We're also looking forward to working with more brands in the future!
